Abstract

Pilar Máynez presents in this work the paleographic transcription and translation of Chapter Seven from the Florentine Codex’s book on divinatory arts. The Nahuatl text recounts ritual practices, signs, and omens used by the Mexica to foresee the future. The Spanish translation is accompanied by annotations explaining the linguistic structure and the cultural and religious references underpinning these practices. The study sheds light on the significance of divinatory knowledge in daily life and governance among the Mexica

Pilar Máynez ofrece en este trabajo la paleografía y traducción del capítulo séptimo del libro dedicado al arte adivinatoria del Códice florentino. El texto recupera en náhuatl prácticas rituales, signos y augurios mediante los cuales los mexicas interpretaban el porvenir. La traducción al español se acompaña de anotaciones que explican tanto la estructura lingüística como las referencias culturales y religiosas que sustentaban estas prácticas. El trabajo permite comprender la importancia del conocimiento adivinatorio en la vida cotidiana y en las decisiones de gobierno
