Abstract

This tribute text reflects on the intellectual legacy of Alfredo López Austin through his book Juego de tiempos, a personal anthology of essays selected by the author himself. Eduardo Matos Moctezuma offers a critical and affectionate reading of López Austin’s theoretical, methodological, and popular contributions to Mesoamerican thought, including his reflections on worldview, myth, time, indigenous literary discourse, and ethnography. The essay highlights key concepts such as “núcleo duro” (core structure) and “anecúmeno time,” while celebrating the author’s humanistic, playful, and self-reflective approach. Este texto de homenaje revisa la trayectoria intelectual de Alfredo López Austin a partir de su obra Juego de tiempos, una antología personal de ensayos seleccionados por el propio autor. Eduardo Matos Moctezuma ofrece una lectura crítica y afectuosa que recorre las aportaciones teóricas, metodológicas y de difusión realizadas por López Austin en torno a la cosmovisión mesoamericana, el mito, el tiempo, los discursos literarios indígenas y la etnografía. El ensayo subraya la profundidad de conceptos como “núcleo duro” y “tiempo del anecúmeno”, al tiempo que destaca la faceta humanista, lúdica y autocrítica del autor.
