Refranes en un santoral en mexicano

Abstract

This study analyzes the anonymous collection "Santoral en mexicano," a set of 16th or 17th-century Nahuatl manuscripts preserved at the Bancroft Library. The research compares these proverbs and metaphors with the contents of Sahagún’s Book VI, highlighting the importance of these literary forms for understanding the grammar, vocabulary, and semantics of Classical Nahuatl. It also emphasizes their value for studying cultural attitudes and values during colonial Mexico, integrating Spanish translations and reflecting missionary influence and intercultural exchanges. This work paves the way for deeper exploration of Nahuatl literature and its connection to Mexican history and religion

El presente estudio analiza la colección anónima "Santoral en mexicano", un conjunto de manuscritos en náhuatl del siglo XVI o XVII conservados en la Biblioteca Bancroft. La investigación compara estos refranes y metáforas con los contenidos del Libro VI de Sahagún, evidenciando la importancia de estas formas literarias para comprender la gramática, vocabulario y semántica del náhuatl clásico. Asimismo, se destacada su valor para el estudio de actitudes y valores culturales en la época colonial mexicana, integrando traducciones al español y reflejando la influencia misionera y la interacción entre culturas. Este trabajo abre caminos para profundizar en la literatura náhuatl y su vinculación con la historia y la religión en México
