This article explores the economic dimensions of the Aztec state, focusing on luxury tribute composed of precious metals, fine stones, and exotic feathers. It analyzes the geographic origin of these materials, the role of markets and trade in their circulation, and the relationship between artisanal production and state demand. The complexity of distribution networks, including tribute delivery and market exchange, as well as the political, religious, and social functions of these goods within Aztec society, is emphasized

Este artículo examina las dimensiones económicas del estado azteca, enfocándose en el papel del tributo de lujo compuesto por metales preciosos, piedras finas y plumas exóticas. Analiza la procedencia geográfica de estos materiales, el papel de los mercados y el comercio en su circulación, así como la relación entre la producción artesanal y la demanda estatal. Se destaca la complejidad de las redes de distribución que incluían tanto la entrega tributaria como el intercambio en mercados, así como la función política, religiosa y social de estos bienes en la sociedad azteca
