Las primeras biografías de Bernardino de Sahagún

Abstract

This article analyzes the earliest biographies and historiographic tracking of friar Bernardino de Sahagún, author of the emblematic "General History of the Things of New Spain." It examines the original manuscripts, their transfers, copies, and destinations, highlighting the complex trajectory of these documents from the 16th century to their rediscovery and appreciation in the 18th and 19th centuries. It also discusses the difficulties and confusions surrounding the identification and preservation of the texts, as well as the contributions of various bibliographers and researchers who have helped reconstruct Sahagún’s figure and work as an essential reference for the study of Nahuatl culture and language

El artículo analiza las primeras biografías y el seguimiento historiográfico de fray Bernardino de Sahagún, autor de la emblemática "Historia general de las cosas de Nueva España". Revisa los manuscritos originarios, sus traslados, copias y destinos, destacando la compleja trayectoria de estos documentos desde el siglo XVI hasta su redescubrimiento y valoración en los siglos XVIII y XIX. Además, se discuten las dificultades y confusiones en torno a la identificación y conservación de los textos, así como las contribuciones de diversos bibliógrafos e investigadores que han permitido reconstruir la figura y obra de Sahagún como un referente imprescindible para el estudio de la cultura y lengua náhuatl
