This article explores the mythical and philosophical meaning of the foundational symbol of Mexico-Tenochtitlan: the eagle perched on a cactus. Alfonso Caso argues that this emblem reflects the Aztec worldview, centered on the sacred mission of feeding the sun through human sacrifice. Drawing from historical sources, codices, and mythology, the author reveals how this image encapsulates the Mexica religious, ethical, and political philosophy, linking the symbol to contemporary national identity
