Abstract

This review analyzes Miguel León-Portilla’s work that compiles Nahuatl theatrical texts from the pre-Hispanic era to the 20th century. The book reveals the richness of indigenous theater, its thematic diversity (religious, playful, catechetical, philosophical, and modern), and its continuity as a living form of cultural expression. The reviewer highlights the symbolic value of Nahuatl theater and its link to the Mesoamerican worldview.

La reseña examina la obra de Miguel León-Portilla que recupera textos teatrales en náhuatl desde el periodo prehispánico hasta el siglo XX. La obra demuestra la riqueza del teatro indígena, su diversidad temática (religiosa, lúdica, catequética, filosófica y moderna), y su continuidad como forma de expresión cultural viva. El autor destaca el valor simbólico del teatro náhuatl y su vínculo con la cosmovisión mesoamericana.
