Las fábulas de Esopo a través de la visión de la cultura nahua Muestra de la colección de Cantares mexicanos

Abstract

"The present translation is a selection of the fables from the manuscript “Cantares Mexicanos”of the National Library of Mexico, which aims to show the particularities of the text in the adaptations of the Greco-Latin world to the Nahua indigenous vision of the 16th century. Didactic and emblematic literature had increasing success during the Renaissance, and the genre of the fable stood out among others for its didactic capacity in the transmission of knowledge and in the exercise of thought. The translation of Aesop’s fables into Nahuatl was intended to create useful materials for teaching the children of indigenous rulers in the precepts of humanism of the time and in Christianity. By means of a critical and foreignizing Spanish translation with respect to the text in Nahuatl, an attempt is made to reflect the features of the dynamic translation of this first approach to the Aesopian fable from the Nahuatl language and culture of the 16th century"

La presente traducción es una selección de las fábulas del manuscrito “Cantares mexicanos” de la Biblioteca Nacional de México (en adelante, BNM), que tiene por objetivo mostrar las particularidades del texto en las adaptaciones del mundo grecolatino a la visión indígena nahua del siglo XVI. La literatura didáctica y emblemática tuvo un creciente éxito durante el Renacimiento, y el género de la fábula sobresalió entre otros por su capacidad didáctica en la trasmisión de saberes y en la ejercitación del pensamiento. La traducción de las fábulas de Esopo al náhuatl tuvo por objeto crear materiales de utilidad para la enseñanza de los hijos de gobernantes indígenas en los preceptos del humanismo de la época y en el cristianismo. Por medio de una traducción al español crítica y extranjerizante con respecto al texto en náhuatl, se intenta reflejar los rasgos de la traducción dinámica de este primer acercamiento a la fábula esópica desde la lengua y la cultura nahuas del siglo xvi.
