Abstract

This chapter addresses the 1624 rebellion in Mexico City, focusing on its causes, key figures, and the social and political context of the time. It details how those aggrieved by the administration of Viceroy Diego Pimentel, especially after the arrest of judges and the absence of the archbishop, organized themselves into collective action. Through testimonies and narratives about the conflict, the chapter analyzes how citizens, motivated by their inability to attend Mass and by a shared sense of injustice, decided to rise up against the authorities. The chapter highlights the interaction between diverse groups and how the rebellion became an act of resistance in defense of their rights and beliefs.

El capítulo aborda la rebelión de 1624 en la ciudad de México, enfocándose en sus causas, protagonistas y el contexto social y político de la época. Se detalla cómo los agraviados por la administración del virrey Diego Pimentel, especialmente tras la detención de oidores y la ausencia del arzobispo, se organizaron en una acción colectiva.
