"Nuestra tierra tambien cambia": la transformacion histórica del paisaje ritual en la Sierra de Otontepec (Huasteca Veracruzana contemporánea)

Abstract

Esta tesis, un estudio etnográfico e histórico, analiza la transformación del paisaje ritual en la Sierra de Otontepec, Huasteca veracruzana, un territorio biodiverso habitado por comunidades nahuas, tének y mestizas. La investigación se centra en la noción local de "mantenimiento" y la práctica de la "ofrenda" (conocida como "dar de comer" a la tierra) como mecanismos fundamentales de reproducción cultural y resistencia histórica. Mediante una metodología cualitativa e interdisciplinaria que integra etnografía, historia, geografía social y etnobotánica, se reconstruye la configuración territorial desde la época colonial hasta la contemporánea, examinando los ciclos agrícolas, la observación de la naturaleza y las estrategias ante el cambio climático. Los hallazgos subrayan la importancia de una visión integral del paisaje ritual, donde la memoria histórica y la cosmovisión indígena son clave para comprender la relación entre la sociedad, la naturaleza y la espiritualidad, destacando el valor de los saberes bioculturales y las prácticas rituales para la identidad y pertenencia comunitaria

This thesis, an ethnographic and historical study, analyzes the transformation of the ritual landscape in the Sierra de Otontepec, Huasteca veracruzana, a biodiverse territory inhabited by Nahua, Tének, and mestizo communities. The research focuses on the local notion of "mantenimiento" (maintenance) and the practice of "ofrenda" (offering, known as "dar de comer" or "feeding the earth") as fundamental mechanisms of cultural reproduction and historical resistance. Employing a qualitative and interdisciplinary methodology integrating ethnography, history, social geography, and ethnobotany, the study reconstructs the territorial configuration from the colonial era to the contemporary period, examining agricultural cycles, nature observation, and climate change strategies. Findings underscore the importance of an integral view of the ritual landscape, where historical memory and indigenous cosmovision are key to understanding the relationship between society, nature, and spirituality, highlighting the value of biocultural knowledge and ritual practices for community identity and belonging
