Miguel León-Portilla

Abstract

This document presents Miguel León-Portilla's reflection on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the UNAM's Institute of Historical Research. In it, León-Portilla expresses his gratitude to the support staff, names the 1995 researchers, and recalls key figures such as Ángel María Garibay and Pablo Martínez del Río. He details his tenure as director (1963-1975), highlighting the expansion of the institute's publications and the creation of the Anthropology Section. He also acknowledges the contributions of his successors, Jorge Gurría Lacroix, Roberto Moreno de los Arcos, and Gisela von Wobeser. Finally, he emphasizes history's ongoing mission in training researchers and deepening knowledge of the past to understand the present, concluding with a personal wish to continue contributing to the institute

Este documento presenta la reflexión de Miguel León-Portilla con motivo del quincuagésimo aniversario del Instituto de Investigaciones Históricas de la UNAM. En él, León-Portilla expresa su gratitud al personal de apoyo, nombra a los investigadores de 1995 y recuerda figuras clave como Ángel María Garibay y Pablo Martínez del Río. Detalla su gestión como director (1963-1975), destacando la expansión de las publicaciones del instituto y la creación de la Sección de Antropología. También reconoce las contribuciones de sus sucesores, Jorge Gurría Lacroix, Roberto Moreno de los Arcos y Gisela von Wobeser.
