Abstract

The "Códice Carolino" is an anonymous 16th-century manuscript containing annotations and additions to Alonso de Molina's Mexican Vocabulary, first edition of 1555. Discovered at the Library of the Colegio del Estado de Puebla, it provides valuable historical, linguistic, and cultural information about the Nahuatl language and its uses during the early colonial period. The handwritten notes, written in Nahuatl, Latin, and Romance languages, expand the original vocabulary and offer insights into religious practices, superstitions, and indigenous knowledge in areas such as astronomy, medicine, and agriculture. Its study deepens the understanding of the Nahua civilization, enriching the documentary corpus on 16th-century Mexico

El "Códice Carolino" es un manuscrito anónimo del siglo XVI que contiene anotaciones y adiciones al Vocabulario Mexicano de Alonso de Molina, primera edición de 1555. Descubierto en la Biblioteca del Colegio del Estado de Puebla, ofrece valiosa información histórica, lingüística y cultural sobre la lengua náhuatl y sus usos en la época colonial temprana.
