Abstract

This article highlights the historical and cultural significance of Doña Luz Jiménez, a prominent Nahua woman from Milpa Alta, who through her narratives in the Nahuatl language preserved the memory and traditions of her community during the eras of Porfirio Díaz and the Mexican Revolution. Her words, recorded and translated by anthropologist Fernando Horcasitas, have been essential in strengthening indigenous identity and providing a unique perspective on daily life, customs, and worldview of the Nahua people. Furthermore, the document reflects on different approaches to reading and valuing these testimonies, emphasizing the literary and human importance of indigenous oral memory

Este artículo presenta la importancia histórica y cultural de Doña Luz Jiménez, una destacada mujer nahua de Milpa Alta, quien a través de sus relatos en lengua náhuatl preservó la memoria y tradiciones de su comunidad durante los períodos de Porfirio Díaz y la Revolución Mexicana. Su palabra, recogida y traducida por el antropólogo Fernando Horcasitas, ha sido clave para fortalecer la identidad indígena y ofrecer una visión única de la vida cotidiana, las costumbres y la cosmovisión de los nahuas.
