Los calendarios aztecas de Sahagún

Abstract

This document presents a detailed study on the correlations between the Aztec calendar and the Roman calendar, focusing especially on Sahagún’s manuscripts. It analyzes the methodological difficulties in interpreting indigenous calendars and their traditions, as well as historical discrepancies regarding the beginning of the Aztec year. Additionally, it reviews the strategies used by missionaries and chroniclers to establish temporal correspondences, highlighting the persistence of multiple models and errors in existing correlations. The work provides a foundation for future research on Mesoamerican chronology, without aiming to offer definitive solutions to the complex problem of calendar correlation

Este documento realiza un estudio detallado sobre las correlaciones entre el calendario azteca y el calendario romano, centrado especialmente en los manuscritos de Sahagún. Se analizan las dificultades metodológicas para interpretar los calendarios indígenas y sus tradiciones, así como las discrepancias históricas en cuanto al inicio del año azteca. Además, se revisan las estrategias empleadas por los misioneros y cronistas para establecer correspondencias temporales, destacando la persistencia de múltiples modelos y errores en las correlaciones existentes. El trabajo aporta una base para futuras investigaciones sobre la cronología mesoamericana, sin pretender ofrecer soluciones definitivas al complejo problema de la correlación calendárica
