Las esculturas de Teotenango

Abstract

This work studies the sculptures of Teotenango, an important archaeological center in the State of Mexico, analyzing their technical features, materials, and styles across different historical periods. Cultural influences from Teotihuacan, Xochicalco, and other regions are identified, as well as commercial and cultural relationships among various Mesoamerican areas. Additionally, a periodization based on sculptural styles is carried out, highlighting techniques such as high and low reliefs and the use of andesitic stone, tezontle, and pumice stone. The analysis also considers the social and religious functions of these sculptures and their relationship with other archaeological remains like petroglyphs

El trabajo estudia las esculturas de Teotenango, un importante centro arqueológico del Estado de México, analizando sus características técnicas, materiales y estilos a lo largo de diferentes periodos históricos. Se identifican influencias culturales de Teotihuacán, Xochicalco y otras regiones, así como relaciones comerciales y culturales entre diversas zonas de Mesoamérica. Además, se realiza una periodificación basada en estilos escultóricos y se destacan las técnicas empleadas, como altos y bajorrelieves, y el uso de piedra andesítica, tezontle y piedra pómez. El análisis también considera la función social y religiosa de estas esculturas y su relación con otros vestigios arqueológicos como petroglifos
