Abstract

This article analyzes the use of complete calendrical dates in the historical texts of Fernando de Alva Ixtlilxóchitl, highlighting the combination of the indigenous Mesoamerican Tonalpohualli calendar with the European calendar after the Conquest. It examines the systematics and calculation methods used by Ixtlilxóchitl to integrate both chronologies, as well as the value and limitations of these dates for pre-Hispanic historical reconstruction. The study also contrasts the practices of Ixtlilxóchitl with those of Domingo Chimalpahin and critically reviews the chronological reliability of the data

Este artículo analiza el uso de fechas calendáricas completas en los textos históricos de Fernando de Alva Ixtlilxóchitl, destacando la combinación del calendario indígena mesoamericano Tonalpohualli con el calendario europeo posterior a la Conquista. Se examina la sistemática y los métodos de cálculo empleados por Ixtlilxóchitl para integrar ambas cronologías, así como el valor y limitaciones de estas fechas para la reconstrucción histórica prehispánica. El estudio contrasta además las prácticas de Ixtlilxóchitl con las de Domingo Chimalpahin y revisa críticamente la fiabilidad cronológica de los datos
