Identificación de Topiltzin Quetzalcóatl de Tula

Abstract

This article provides a detailed examination of the iconography associated with Topiltzin Quetzalcóatl in the Codex Magliabecchiano, addressing the methodological challenges in iconographic research. The author identifies and describes the characteristic elements of the figure, such as the headdress, shield, and other adornments, and analyzes previous interpretations, proposing a new identification based on pictorial evidence and Nahuatl texts. The study also emphasizes the importance of accurate recognition of materials and techniques to understand the meaning and context of Mexica deity representations

Este artículo examina detalladamente la iconografía asociada a Topiltzin Quetzalcóatl en el Códice Magliabecchiano, abordando las dificultades metodológicas en la investigación iconográfica. La autora identifica y describe los elementos característicos del personaje, como el penacho, el escudo y otros atavíos, y analiza las interpretaciones previas, proponiendo una nueva identificación basada en evidencia pictórica y textos en náhuatl.
