El "Coloquio de Tlaxcala" de Diego Muñoz Camargo

Abstract

This work analyzes the pictorial and documentary representation of the baptism of the lords of Tlaxcala during the conquest of Mexico-Tenochtitlan in the 16th century. It focuses on the mural paintings of the Tlaxcala City Council and the Tlaxcala Codex as fundamental visual sources, highlighting Diego Muñoz Camargo’s role in organizing and disseminating these images to reinforce Tlaxcala’s historical and political memory as an ally of Hernán Cortés. It also examines the construction of the dialogue between the Tlaxcaltecs and the conquistadors, emphasizing the official indigenous perspective and the role of Christianity in this process

Este trabajo analiza la representación pictórica y documental del bautismo de los señores de Tlaxcala durante la conquista de México-Tenochtitlan en el siglo XVI. Se enfoca en las pinturas murales del Cabildo de Tlaxcala y el Lienzo de Tlaxcala como fuentes visuales fundamentales, destacando la función de Diego Muñoz Camargo en la organización y difusión de estas imágenes para fortalecer la memoria histórica y política de Tlaxcala como aliado de Hernán Cortés. Además, examina la construcción del coloquio entre Tlaxcaltecas y conquistadores, resaltando la visión oficial indígena y el papel del cristianismo en este proceso
