Abstract

This review examines a collection of eight articles that explore the independence processes in Spanish America from various historiographical and territorial perspectives. The text emphasizes the continuing relevance and richness of the subject despite the abundant existing bibliography, highlighting novel aspects such as political culture, citizen participation, and the social and political transformations following independence. It also addresses issues of periodization and questions the continuities and breaks between the colonial state and the new republican states

Esta reseña analiza un conjunto de ocho artículos que exploran los procesos de independencia en la América española desde diversas perspectivas historiográficas y territoriales. El texto destaca la vigencia y riqueza del tema a pesar de la abundante bibliografía existente, subrayando aspectos novedosos como la cultura política, la participación ciudadana y las transformaciones sociales y políticas posteriores a la independencia. Asimismo, señala cómo se revisan problemas de periodización y cómo se cuestionan las continuidades y rupturas entre el Estado colonial y los nuevos Estados republicanos
