De poblados de hacienda a municipios en el altiplano de San Luis Potosí

Abstract

This article analyzes the formation and political status of hacienda settlements and their struggle to acquire the status of municipalities and town in San Luis Potosí. This effort, the author explains, was designed to grant them access to the corporate rights from which they had been excluded, regarding both entry into common lands and the creation of their own town halls. It Shows how the Lerdo Law, which prohibited towns and town halls from owning and administering common assets, affected the hacienda villages of San Luis Potosí that became municipalities during that time,particularly as regards their attempt to obtain communal lands to become independent from the haciendas in which they were located

Este artículo analiza la formación y la condición política de los poblados de hacienda y su lucha por obtener el estatuto de municipios y pueblos en San Luis Potosí. Dicho esfuerzo, explica, tenía el objetivo de acceder a los derechos corporativos de que habían estado excluidos, tales como el ingreso a tierras de uso común y la conformación de sus propios ayuntamientos. Muestra cómo la ley Lerdo, que prohibía a los pueblos y ayuntamientos la posesión y administración de bienes comunales, afectó a los poblados de hacienda de San Luis Potosí que se erigieron como municipios en esta época, particularmente en su propó-sito de obtener tierras comunales para independizarse de las haciendas en que se encontraban
